Does anyone know if the 1972 Blazer with a 350 was before or after GM changed to lesser compression heads to satisfy the emmissions requirements. I think I remember that it happened in cars about then. But I thought the trucks were left alone for a bit longer. A friend has a '72 350 Blazer in his barn and I'm interested to know if it would have the better 350 or the ones with less HP (compression) heads. |

| You can check the head casting number. Here is one site, but you can find many charts on the internte. http://www.prestage.com/community/Tech+Info/Casting+Numbers/318.aspx |

| Don't know about the Blazer but I had a '78 C20 window van with the 350, factory stock. Somehow I remember it as being the last year of the non cat vehicle. It had no cat and the emissions sticker said something to the effect of "truck engine, no cat, etc." It did run good so my guess is it did not have a very detuned engine. Don't remember what the CR was. ray |

| My guess, either 8.5 or 9.0 to one compression, the horsepower of the engine will tell, or run the vin on line or at a Chevrolet dealer to find which motor. Ooops, I mean engine ID number. 350's have lots of low end torque, and this will make up for some lost compression. |
