Just remembered something else. When checking junk yards it's easy to find the right era Chevy truck, the 1973 is the first year with curved side windows through 1980, and the front side marker lights are thin and verticle. The 1981 through 1987 have thin horizontal front side marker lights.

73-87 body mounting points are the same. I mounted an 84 cab on my 76 and everything lined up just fine. there can be some issues with hoods and core supports relating to the hood latch. One thing I did hear about is going between 4X2 and 4X4 cabs. 4X4 has a larger raised hump under the seat to accomadate the transfer case.
