After years of fighting with the leaky fuel guzzling b model rochester carb on my 64 C60 chevy"s 292 6 cyl. I"m thinking of converting the old truck to propane. I drove an similar old chevy years ago that ran on propane and loved it. Anybody know if you can still get the carb and other parts to do the conversion? or have any related advice? Thanks, Mike

If you are looking for long term reliability, the best way to go is a new propane system.

Dual fuel has some advantages, even with a leaky carb, but the system will run a bit higher in cost.

Actually, if you are not proficient with repairing propane systems, it is probably best to avoid the old systems or used systems, because they likely need rebuilding.

Century's that are rebuilt do work, but the Century's when they were new units had a reputation for backfiring under a load, and I do not know if rebuilders have resolved that issue.

Otherwise IMPCO and a few of the old names are still in business, as well as a bunch of new ones too.

Running costs will end up being about the same. Only when Propane is significantly cheaper like it is at the moment in most areas will you see a significant savings.

Summer before last I put a rebuilt 360 in my 67 Dodge 400. I had bought various LP motor fuel part at auction over the years and used them. I had to buy a carb adapter from a LP Motor fuel tech. because of the carb I was using. The only other repair I had to make with my used part was a gasket leaking water on the vaporizer/ regulator. My 360 start better on LP than it does on gasoline. I also have an LP fuel Gleaner combind. I have minimal fuel problems.
