With all the experience on this forum, surely someone knows the answer. What gas mileage can be expected from a good driving '61 Chevy Apache 1/2 ton step-side with a 6 cyl 235 CID? Take a SWAG at it.....thanks. |

| | John A. - thanks for the reply. I failed to mention this Apache is a Powerglide tranny.....your 12-15 mpg is propbably real close to actual. The Powerglide 2-speed is geared low and with the high rear end ratio all adds up to low gas mileage. Mitch |

| | Ronnie - that's excellent mileage. The combonation of rear end and 3-speed help contribute to good MPG. I think the Powerglide 2-speed robs mileage from economical engines such as the 235 CID. It wasn't a problem when this transmission was first introduced......gas was .14 to .17 cents a gallon in the early 60's and nobody cared. |
