Just wondering if anyone knows much about early 60's Chevy transmissions. I was told by a friend that all, but maybe only some, 1961 and 1962 Chevy trucks with 6 cylinder engines and "3 on the tree" shifting came with a smaller Saginaw tranny in relation to the 3 speed Saginaws that are so abundant in the 70's and 80's pickups. Is there any truth behind this? If so, does anyone know where I could get close to Minnesota? If anyone has any info at all on these transmissions please email me at desser88@hotmail.com Thank you!

Don't know about Chevrolet, but with some vehicles, if you go to a heavier tranny, you go from a fine spline to a wide spline clutch. All I am saying is that you may need to change the clutch, if you change the tranny. Good luck.

my 66 gmc was a 3 on the tree and it did have a little dinky trannie that had a long tail shaft. I could take a look at it and see if it says saginaw on it.

I forget if it was 66 or 67 that the 1/2 tons started using the heavier tranny with the synchro on first. Before that was the small ones and the guys that ran 'em hard used to have problems. There should still be some around, but condition may be a problem.
