Our family business bought the 37 KW new, retired it in 1987 and started to restore it.
It has a 1940 471 in it and I need ideas how to finish it off. It has a shovel nose grill which I do not like and I think I could sacrifice correctness for a conventional KW grill which makes it look very cool. This truck won a national contest for being the oldest truck operating in a fleet in the United States.
What do I do with it?

Hope to hear from truck folks.

Sincerely

David Taylor

A 1937 Kenworth is quite rare. That would have been the grill from the thirties, sometimes designs don't appeal later but that's history.

The 471 (Detroit Diesel) would have been an appropriate retrofit. Maybe go to aths.org and float the question about the grill. My guess is that it would be worth far more in history and money if you keep it original. Most people would love to get a KW that old. Especially if it has a working award like it does.

How about a pic? I'd like to see what that beast looks like.
