Needing a cheap swap.I got a nice 460 in a 77 Lincoln and my 90 Ford 350 4x4 has a blown motor..Will it fit without much swapping.I know the oil pan and exhaust will be a problem. Maybe oil filter too.Flywheel? Do you know of a link for this swap?Any help will be really nice..Thanks idontno

Hey dude, since you already have a 460, you would have most of the stuff to change it and do it right.Obviously you'd have to change the flywheel, but you might not know you will have to use the balancer from the Lincoln since the balance is different, you'll have to use the crank pulley from you'r truck, for the serpentine belt system.I am pretty sure the injection will be a direct bolt replacement, but you can never be sure with Ford cause they can never leave anything alone!!! interchanbeability is almost nonexistent.I don't think it is a major deal.I think almost everything will interchange. The only thing I'd be concerned with is the balancer situation.I'd call Ford and ask about that. I know some of the '76 460's had a seperate weight behind the balancer, and I don't know if you'd need to remove it or not, some of them had a spacer between the balancer and block. If you need any more help, I have a great old Ford guy in my neck of the woods, email me and I'll see what he says. don't be discouraged. Pay close attention, and take pictures if possible.

GOD bless you.

why not look into a short engine from ford and have our heads rebuilt then it is not that big of a deal . tHAT IS WHAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE ON MY 88 f350 4x4 AND RUN IT FOR A NOTHER 300000. A new short engine thru ford at my cost was like 2700 for new but no i had to buy a Dodge with a cummins . Atleast the Ford never had to have new wheel bearings and the A/C in the ford would freeze ya out the Dodge need to be fixed and that is and all day job .

If your 4x4 has a standard trans, that will be another problem. I don't believe the 460 had anything but auto transmissions up until the neighbor hood of 1985, and the late flywheel will not work on the early 460 because of the way the early and late 460's were balanced.
A 390 standard flywheel will work on the older 460's and run smooth, but you will need a zipper on the starter and transmission until you get the right ring gear on the flywheel. And I don't remember the ring gear number.

I am running a 460 ford passenger engine in an f350 4xx with a 4 speed. The flywheel is from a 390. The bellhouseing I used is from a race supplier because a friend had it laying around but you can get the whole set up from Advanced adaptors.

Exhaust is via headers to a custom built dualy set up. Pulls great and eats gas.

The 460 bellhousing is common ONLY to the 429, the 351M [NOT the 351W or 351C] and the 400M engines. So unless your F350 has one of these engines--quite unlikely from the factory--you're going to have to also figure in a transmission swap [or a bellhousing swap, if the truck has a manual tranny...as well as chasing down a 460 flywheel.].

This doesn't even include the fuel injection system...standard in '90 Ford trucks, but unheard of on a '77 Lincoln. This means that you'll either have to find a way to use the fuel injection's in-tank pump, fuel pressure regulator and tank return line on a carbureted engine, or adapt the 460 to fuel injection from a late-model truck engine [which also means an ECM swap], or else bypass the in-tank pump and use the mechanical pump from the '77 engine. Also, the '77 engine used a Duraspark distributor, while the late-model EFI engines use an electronic, computer-controlled distributor with the TFI module.

Now, I'm NOT saying you shouldn't do the swap: I'm just saying, if you're gonna do it, go into things with your eyes wide open.
