Should I put any money into this truck? The engine runs good but the clutch went out. It has a hand tailgate control you can reach out the window. Appears to have 89,000 original miles on it. Should I consider putting a small cat motor in it? What about the 5 speed with the electric over air 2 speed rear end? Will it hold up? I was going to pull my little 303CR excvator with it(10,000 lbs with the trailer).

If you really want to swap in a Cat engine, I'd suggest you go to www.oldihc.org and let the folks on the Class 8 Trucks forum know you've got an engine to sell. There just might be someone restoring a truck that might need that engine.

Not familiar with the attributes or downsides of that particular engine, but I believe it was also used in the 1468 and 1568 farm tractors as well...and those things operate most of the time under high-load conditions.
