| I thought all the old fords have firing order somewhere on manifold and cap usually marked 1. |

| | I have a 1959 Motor's that covers back to a 1952 flat head V-8 car. Firing order is the same a most Ford V-8's which is 15486372 with number one the front plug an Pass. side of engine. Number 4 is the rear plug on pass. side. Number 5 is front plug on drivers side. Number 8 is rear plug on drivers side. Like this: 1234 5678 where Chevy and and Chrysler are like this: 2468 1357 Kent

| Mitch is right on, but be VERY wary of firing order. I just fought a late flathead for several days before finding out different books show different firing order. That one is out of the shop, and I don't remember what the proper order is. Also, keep in mind Ford numbers thier cylinders differently than everyone else |

| Turn the engine over until the #1 cylinder is at top dead center. Then aim the rotor to the number 1 on the distributor cap. From there It should start and that is about as close as you can get.Or if you can find a timing light that works with the 6 volt some 12 volts work.On the flywheel at the (front bottom pulley), there is a very small rivet that sticks out from it.Turn the engine over while running emery cloth(sand paper)On the top of the flywheel. This should shine up where the rivet is.Then take the inductive clamp from the timing light place it on the spark plug wire with the arrow facing towards the plug( might be away check, with who you get the timing light from)then place other clamps on the battery. From there Start the engine, aim the flashing beam at the flywheel.Advance or retard(turn distributor clockwise or counter clockwise) the timing till the light flashes at the same time as the you see the rivet. You might want to mark it with a piece of chalk.Thats how I got my 48 F-5 timed. And you should set the points to .021-.019 |
