Transmission jumps out of gear. Couldn't find another transmission because of tail shaft length. Need advice about shortening or lengthening drive shaft. Open to suggestions. |

| Just some info. Had a 60 Ford Fairlane 500, put several tranys in it, three speed on the column. afterward, found out that there were wide spline and fine spline trannys and wished I put a wide spline heavy duty in to avoid blowing more trannys. They were use in heavy duty applications like police cars and maybe trucks. You might already have a wide spline tranny in there, it being a truck. |

| Take the driveshaft to a driveshaft shop. They have the tools, material, and expertise to do the job right. The least bit of out-of-balance will rattle your teeth. |

| If you have a choice to lenthen or shorten, it's a no brainer. Shorten the drive shaft. To lengthen will take a tube diameter to match, 2 welding paths, and critical alignment setup on the welding jig or lathe. Shorten it and you can make an exact cut on the lathe, tack weld it in place on the lathe, finish up with one weld pass, and balance. |
