Can anyone tell me if the vented cap located on the floor under the drivers seat is the filler point for the hydraulics? If so how is the level checked and where should it read? The truck is a factory tow truck with 2 Holmes PTO driven winches and the hydraulic lift on the rear end.Anyone got or have access to a schematic that may also be of any help to me?

IF the cap you are seeing IS the hydraulic fill, you MAY find a dipstick dangling from it.

BE SURE what you are pouring oil into is NOT the breather for the vacuum brake booster!

Without looking at it again Bob I'm sure that I must have been refering to the vacuum brake booster.Once again can anyone tell me where the filler should be???

Look under the truck, does it have a PTO driven pump? follow the hydraulic lines to the hyd resevoir, should be somewhere under the bed, not in the cab.If it is a electric driven pump it is probably mounted near the outside controls if not under bed also. Some of these units are a round tank with a built in pump. See where the noise is coming from when you engage the unit and trace to a resevoir, filler will be on top so you can add fluid.

These trucks usually didn't come from GM with a pump, they were added when the Wrecker bed was installed so if a self contained bed it was integrated in bed, otherwise it is a PTO or electric unit mounted from frame somewhere. Won't be in cab and usually not in engine compartment.....James

Look under the bed itself. you should have a resivour tank there. its probably going to be about 2 ft. long and approx 8 inches thick with a line about 1" to 1 1/2 in diameter with a top fill square plug in. this line will go directly to your pump. do not fill it completely to the top because you will need room for back pressure and expansion when your bed comes back.
