Hi, i want to decode the glove box tag, but the sites i have found so far have not told me all of the numbers. i have a number and a couple of letters for the color code, but the sites only show one or the other. anyway, if anyone knows a good site for this, please let me know.
thanks,
Jared

If you post your information, I can probably untangle it for you. The only thing that might be hard is the Production Code. Sometimes they are a puzzle. Stu

Well, I was able to decipher most of the information from the tag. The only thing I don't understand is the SS 21 above the color section. The site I used said the "SS" meant Special Paint, but what does that mean? And I was not abole to find out what color the 21 stood for, so really those are the only two things that kinda stumped me. If you could shine some light on it for me, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

My reference book is titled Catalog of Ford Truck ID Numbers, 1946 - 1972. It's published by Cars and Parts Magazine. All it gives is what you already know. The SS was for special paint, no doubt fleet colors, but it gives no further description. The only way I can see to match it is to find an area that's been spared repaint, damage, or UV discoloration and have it computer matched. Maybe the gas tank, or some other interior piece. Sorry I'm no more help. Stu

Thank you, you have been very helpful. I was really just curious, I'm not restoring it to original. I'm only 21 and I have a 71 Dart and a new Cobalt, so it's kind of a budget resto. But, what does "special paint" mean? I don't quite understand.

If a company has ordered a large number of vehicles to use in its service fleet, it may order special paint jobs in the company's colors. Like UPS does today having all brown trucks. That's a special shade of brown exclusive to UPS.
