Recently aquired 1936 REO truck. 6 cyl continental engine that is stuck- rest of truck very nice and orig, not molested. Looking for info, and willing to share any other info this truck may have. Only 2600 miles, very virgin. My first OLD truck- I'm a gas engine guy.

If that's really a 36 (and you didn't hit the 3 instead of 4) can you find a Reo model tag and/or an engine tag? I can't find any Cont engine listing for a 36 (find a few Buda's in the heavier models). Only Cont'ls I find are in 46 up, but my sources are old parts catalogs, not very reliable.

Usually there's a makers tag (small metal piece, 2 or 3 inches x 3 or 4 inches) riveted somewhere visible (on firewall under hood, around inside of drivers doorframe, on inside of glove box door, somewhere on inside of cab, etc) which gives truck model and serial #'s (both for owners and for mech's working on truck). Engines usually have their own tag, showing make and model, but often both lost, destroyed or maybe never installed. See what you can find; you may have to scrape grease off the engine block to find a tag.
Per my sources looks like 36's were almost all Silver Comets or Gold Comets (Reo's own engines), but there is a 11/2T with a Buda, and there are probably low-prod models not in my catalogs.
There's also a Reo Club for both cars and trucks (Google Reo Club and it should come up). Good luck.

I am also suspicious that it may not be a Contintental. Where is the distributor? Continental usually had it coming out the head between the 4th and 5th cylinder.

I now realize that this is a reo engine. Finally found reo on an exaust valve of all places. Dist. comes though head between 3 and 4, itis a 3 3/8 bore flathead 6. there is a "14d 2113" stamped into casting on left front block and 2452 stamped into head. Victor head gasket stamped "960". Anyone know where I could get some parts? Gasket set, valves, rings.
