I should proof read more carefully before I post.

The last torque setting should read: Damper or Pulley 130-145.

I assembled a 1955 F-800 from 5 junk trucks back in 1985 and acquired these books for that project. The truck is sitting in my yard patiently wating for me to find a reason to drive it again.

Well, according to my Motors Truck Repair Manual, the 279 was last used in the 1955 model 750, 1956 and 1957 used: 6-223, V8-272, V8-302, and V8-332.

Torque specs for the 1955 V8-279 are listed as follows: (all values are Ft. Lbs.)

Spark plugs: 15-20

Cylinder head 90 (bolts marked "FT" 110)

Intake manifold 23-28

Exhaust manifold 23-28

Rocker shaft support 12-15 (with stiffening plates 22-25)

Rocker cover 2-2.5

Conn. rod cap 45-50

Main Bearing cap 120-130

Flywheel to Crankshaft 75-85

Damper of Pulley 130-145

The fourth digit on the warranty number is the engine designation:

1955: V V8-239, Z V8-256, J V8-279, K V8-317

1956: V V8-272 light duty, Z V8-272 heavy duty, R V8-272 4 bbl, J V8-302, A V8-302 4 bbl, K V8-332, S V8-332 4 bbl.

The 1955 F 750 is supposed to have the V8-279, the 1956 thru 1963 F 750 is supposed to have the V8-302, and the 1964 should have the V8-361.

I hope that somewhere in this post you find what you need!

I also have Ford repair manuals for 1954-55, 1961, part manuals for 1948-55, and 1956. Let me know if you need any information from these books.

Or you can go to a GOOD parts store and have them look in thier engine bearings book. Each engine will have the torque listing. I'd look in mine but it's at home in Washington State and I'm in Louisiana until May.

If nobody comes along with your answer, you can for sure find help over on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts site, in the 1948 to 1960 group. The web site is www.ford-trucks.com. There's several guys there that have the mid-year Big Job trucks.
