I recently bought a Mack single axle dump truck, type B 30 P on ebay. The seller says the rear brakes need to be "gone through" before it can be driven. I"m trying to find info on what brakes it has and how much this truck might weigh to I can decide whether to try an on-site fix or trailer it to a mechanic. Any info would be appreciated, especially if there"s a site out there with specs for this truck. Thanks.

Terry, I knew about the hydraulic brakes, just don't know what size or how they're configured. A parts list would be nice, but I've had someone suggest converting it to air brakes with a belt driven compressor... not sure what's the best way to go. I prefer to keep things original when I can but, if the parts aren't available, I may have to switch it over.

A list of suppliers would be great! 10,000 lbs is pretty close to the guesstimate I got from the seller (9500). It's sounding like I'll have to trailer it home to work on it. Thanks in advance for the info. If you'd like, I can email you some pics of the truck.

Eric

I can't seem to upload any other pics right now. Too bad, because there's a nice shot from the driver's side and a good engine shot too.

Here's a pic from the front, showing the plow.

Yeah, I was hoping to restore it. Engine runs and the plow works, just not safe to drive without brakes! Thanks for your help, I really appreciate finding people who can offer good information.

Nice looking truck. If you want a copy of the original build sheet for your truck, contact the Mack Trucks Historical Museum, 997 Postal Road, Allentown Pa 18109. There is no charge, but a donation to the museum would be a good idea. They have a busy bunch of volunteers, so it takes a while, but they will send you a fantastic amount of information on your truck, including almost every part #. Good luck. Steve

Thanks, Steve! This is probably the biggest help. I'll definately contact them and for that kind of information I'll have no problem giving a donation. It's too bad the official Mack site doesn't have a link to them (or at least none that I could find). Once again, thank you for the information. I'll try to keep everyone here posted on the progress.
