Are you talking about ignition timing, or do you mean timing the camshaft drive gears to the crankshaft ?
If you mean camshaft timing, turn the camshaft or camshafts so the exhaust valve on that cylinder is just about closed and the intake valve on that same cylinder is just starting to open. set the gears so the camshaft is at that overlap point with the piston at TDC.
That should get you very close or right on.
