I recently purchased a wheel embossed with E.W.C. RS-490, and I am looking for more information about. Through the internet, I believe that it was made by Electric Wheel Company, and that it is either a tractor or trailer wheel. It is a 10 spoke all metal wheel, and I believe it held a tube and tire, given the the shape of the rim.

Unfortunately, I don't have rights to upload picture on here, but I can make some available through other sources, if you are interested.

I am mainly looking to date it and learn what else I can.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Electric Wheel Company's 1958 catalog doesn't have your wheel. What puzzles me is the fact that your RS-490 follows none of their numbering conventions. All the car and truck wheel manufacturers used numbering sequences that allow me to know roughly what era a wheel fits into. EWC's catalog does show part numbers having a letter or letters followed by numbers, but nothing with an RS. It could be that your wheel is much earlier or later than my catalog which could be the reason. Their 1958 catalog shows EWC to be a division of Firestone. Stu

Thanks. I checked again, and it is RS-490. It is just a hunch, based on stuff that I have seen on the internet, but I was thinking it is from the 30s.

That looks like the HD rubber tire press wheel for a JD grain drill. The HD version had that sturdy thick cast hub.

I think you are right about his being a JD wheel. Although I haven't found this exact wheel, I have seen a lot of JD wheels that look similar, 10-spoke, spoke layout, etc.
