The in-line resistor would quite likely need to be a different value for each accesory as each accesory would have it"s own current needed and the current AND voltage determine what the resistor value needs to be. Resistors are relatively cheap, but figuring the needed values can be a pain mainly because measuring the different currents for accesories can be a time consuming task requiring some good instrumentation.

also should add that these resistors may be rather high wattage requirements which means they are physically large and space for several may be a problem.
