when it doesnt want to run, is it missing , or running on all 8 but rough or just for a few seconds? one will be a fuel problem, ie, clogged fuel filter or failed pump, however, the most likely suspect is the ignition module, dodges arnt as bad as the same era fords but they do fail, usually when they do it wont start or if it cools off it may run for a few minutes then quit, the other thing to look at is the distributor, carefully check the cap for cracks, make sure the little black button is in the center of the inside of it at the top, then look at the rotor for any damage or cracks all will cause a misfire, and if things get just right can cause it to backfire out of the carb post back with your findings and we'll go from there, after that were going to have to do some checking of the engine mechanicals
