It sounds like you're fixed up and using Jakes already now on your 6-71... I think i have seen the spacer you're talking about. You may want to check into different production years of engines because I believe a number of years the Detroits came with tall enough valve covers to accommodate the Jake brakes. On all Detroits with Jakes that I have owned no spacer was ever needed. I was surprised that nobody had responded to your post sooner...I just started looking at this topic myself as I have been on the farm tractor topics for a long time. If you post under "Crawlers" on this site there is a lot more traffic and you're likely to hear from some Detroit specialists.
