I got a 79 chevy 350 engine standard 4 on the floor wont shift into gear without grinding. New clutch throw-out bearing 2 years ago kids been driving it. Last time the throw-out bearing came out in pieces, is it possible I have the same Issue? I can shift it when its not running no issues except reverse is a little hard to get in to. Any Ideas what to look for?

thanks in advance for any help

Ill have to take a look the truck is rusted out all over I don't were it came from before I got it here in Arizona. Its nite right now but I assume you mean rusted out around the rubber supports on the cab side as opposed to the frame now that could very well be the floor is rusted thru. Ill look at it in the morning.

Thanks Byron

On my 1980 Chev if a person sit in it and pushes the clutch pedal down you can see the cab sage a tad bit. If you look at the clutch linkage you can see where if the cab sages the linkage can not pull or push the linkage as far as it needs to due to the cab sagging. You can also use a 2X6 and a jack and jack up the cab till you can see the truck starting to move up wards then push the clutch down and see if it shifts like it should then and if it does then you have cab sage

Hows the cab?? My 1980 was giving me a problem like your having and I found the cab supports are rusted out which causes cab sag which in turn cause the clutch to not be pushed as far to be able to release it as it should. I jacked my cab up and put 2X6 boards under the cab to help hold it up.

Ill have to check it tomorrow the clutch petal attachment holes under the dash were badly elongated I had fabricated and installed new bushings today to take the slop out the clutch. It was moving way to the left to the point it would catch on the dimer switch. The petal would get stuck half way down and not extend all the way back up because of the elongated holes. Son said he liked it like that. I was like well that's not how it works so I've got that fixed. Ran out of time ill check the free play tomorrow Thanks for the response

How much free play is in the clutch petal, if it goes more than half way before you feel the throw out bearing hit the pressure plate fingers, it either needs adjusting, or the disk is shot, kids driving it says a lot.
