My Dad and I had one exactly like that with a good size boom crane on the back. I'm not big on IH knowledge but ours had an inline 6 cyl. 372 cu. in. I believe they were called Black Diamond. We were told that was the good engine. There was also a Red Diamond engine which was essentially not good as the rumour went. In such a case your idea of doing an engine upgrade would be good. Ours had air over hydraulic brakes. They need a real work over if the truck has been sitting for any length of time. They are very strong built trucks and were put to hard work in their day.
