I think they called it a NP-542 according to My '1978 Ford Service manual. I drove a couple UPS trucks 26 yrs ago that had what I thought was that tranny. Yep, Still creeper low, but I don't think 5th was an over-drive, just closer spaced ratios overall. I will say that even though the UPS trucks with the 5-speeds were larger, and much heavier they sure would run up thru the gears faster with those closer ratios. Rear axle ratio was about the same as the 4-speed trucks.
