454 to diesel one-tonner?

[ View Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Return to Forum ]

Posted by Windancer on May 01, 2004 at 02:44:44 from (209.142.215.14):

So I have a line on this '88 GMC
1-ton with a 454 / 4-speed truck.
I know the 454 would yield terrible
gas mileage. Are diesels available
(where/how?) and would it be a difficult
switch? I plan to use the truck for
infrequent tractor/dozer (8,500lb) hauling
and pulling large fully loaded hay wagons.
Some say that those earlier-generation
diesels are not desirable.
