Overall, it was a very nice, low mileage truck that he could buy for about 25% of the value of the same, whole truck. My friend decided that he could not afford to replace the diesel engine, so he converted it to a 460 and C6 out of an older Lincoln. He had to change a lot of things to make it a gas truck, but ended up with a rig that ran real strong for much less than a similar used truck would have cost off a lot. However after about a year, he sold the pickup. He lives in an area that requires vehicle emission testing. When he went in for the testing, they found out that he had an older gas engine in a diesel chassis. There was no way that it would pass the gas engine standards and without the emission testing certificate, he could not relicense it. He essentially had to sell it to someone in Idaho, where they are not subjected to the testing. And he got much less than he would have if it had either a diesel or had originally had a gas engine. Not such a good deal after all! Engine swaps can be done and can work well. You don't say what transmission the diesel has in it now. There probably is a bellhousing-clutch setup that will fit your transmission and whatever engine you might choose at a wrecking yard. But you might want to consider the emission inspection angle. It might change your mind about going to a gas engine.
