After disassembly, and I mean removing the oil gallery plugs and cooling system core/freeze plugs, get a couple of cans of degreaser, soak it down, and go to nearest car wash, or someone thats understanding that owns a power washer. In the shop we don't use hot tanking anymore, we have essentially a large dishwasher, which uses hot soapy water, does a fantastic job on grease and dirt, without the caustic mess, and smell.
