The little disc keeps out the dirt, keeping the grease in. In most cases the king pin is 'pinned' to the axle, locked there, and only the spindle turns on the kingpin. The weight of the truck turns on a ball bearing unit, that is located between the lower axle part and the spindle. There are usually thin shims used to take up the slack in the fit. I would pump the zerks full of grease, til it comes out everywhere, there are usually felts that keep it in. Actually see how it drives and handles. Ask yourself if it needs to have perfect steering for an occasional parade.
