However here's a few general differences. 1 - Rated HP. A truck motor will be advertised at 100% of it's max HP. The same motor in an "industrial" rating will usually be rated 75% to 85% of max. 2 - Governed RPM. Truck engines usually have only a speed limiting governor. It kicks in at the max rated RPM to prevent overspeeding. Industrial engines on the other hand are generally fitted with a variable speed governor. Also an industial engine's max governed speed is usually set well below the RPM where maximum horsepower is developed. 3 - Emissions controls. Truck engines must meet applicable EPA emissions standards, thus are fitted with various emission control hardware. Depending on the application, engine size (and whether it's going to Calif), an industrial engine may fall under a less restrictive emission standard. For example I have yet to see an EGR valve installed on an industial engine. There may be other differences such as clutch housing/PTO connections, cooling system capacity, electrical system capacity, manifolding, camshaft grind, safety shutdown equipment for low oil pressure/high temp, etc. But this covers the basics...
