Need help starting

1983 Ford 460 V-8, will not start. Got in one morning, starter turns motor fine but it appears to get no fire, with my limited test equipment. Strong battery, I replaced the coil and the ignition module....no help. Just cranks and cranks, although when I let of the key once(from start to run) it almost "hit" once. What would a new starter solenoid do? Thanks in advance.
