I'm sure it wasn't even the first, but the Duesenberg J's and SJ's of the late 20's and
early 30's used overhead cam straight 8's...double overhead cams at that. Stutz also used a single overhead cam on their 1926 "Vertical 8" On the low price end of the scale, Crosley used an overhead cam engine in the late 1940's. While none of the cars I've mentioned were true "mass production" cars by todays standards, nevertheless all three were production automobiles, used overhead cams and were American made.
