I agree that this makes the most sense.
Logically there should be some more testing
you could do before going there. Does the coil
get power?
Try following the ignition circuit, can you skip
the switch? Lots of older cars only use the key
to engage the starter and have a toggle switch
wired in for on and off.

If the starter cranks its not the solenoid...
