A quick look at a Motors truck manual saysIH sold the AMC401 as a "400" in pickups/travalall/and scouts in 73-74 Also the AMC 232-258 six cyl in the light duty units.
The motors manual also lists atleast two versions of genuine IH 401 engines,listed as the 401 and 401 short.No Idea what they are as I have no experience with them.
