Charles, I am doing something simular with my 56 ford f250 cab on a 73 Gmc one ton frame. Here are some things I discoverd. The modern cabs and fender/hood sections are longer than the ones on the old trucks. When you get the cab in position so the front wheels are centered in the wheel wells you will discover the motor no longer fits in stock frame location. I had to slide my motor/trans forward 4 inches and fab up new mounts. Putting the cab forward will also give you about 6 inches extra of frame on the back, so if you had a bed already it wont fit. I fabbed a mount for the chevy tilt wheel and connected it to the streering box with special U joints and a solid shaft which worked out pretty good. The power brake booster had to be mounted to the firewall and a special brake petal hanger fabed up to mate it to. I could go on and on but this may give you a picture. It is a lot of fun for me, I can do it all myself without hireing anyone. But in my humble opinion if the truck you wanted had a good strong frame under it already I think it would be "easier" to modify it to accept the modern axles and power steering etc... Either way you go just have fun and dont skimp on saftey items.
