Look around your area junkyards, back yards, etc. I'll bet you can find a decent flatbed cheaper than you can build one. I just bought a nice steel flatbed for $25.00 with lights and all ! I know of several others around here for less than $100. - you'll have that in lumber not to mention the time to build.
