TH400 question

I replaced the trans pan gasket, noticed an orange wire running from the firewall to the dr. side of tranny. Wire looked bad, figured I'd replace it. Pulled on wire, the whole plug came out, draining about 1 qt. of fluid. The plug has the one wire coming in. The part inside the tranny has 2 male connectors but I only see 1 wire inside the trans.
What is this "plug" and which post does the wire in the tranny go to?
