motor/tranny suggestions?

I got a 1949 GMC Semi. Big old heavy thing. I'd like maybe to use it for tractor hauling in the future and not go broke. I think it is the 500 gas 6cyl in it now. Go Detroit in it or what? Cummins? What do ya say boys?
