Maybe what you think is a plug is really a little check valve.I've seen these stuck in the vent hoses.Lets the housing breathe without sucking in all the bottom-side crud or water.If this is what your Bronco has,clean the valve real good,take the hose off and blow it out and reinstall everything.Had this plug up on a ' 93 F-250.Kept seeping gear lube out the axle seals.Not a fun job.
