Re: Need Guidance: Buying nice F600 with 330 motoPosted by dhermesc on December 08, 2004 at 08:47:59 from (68.110.220.22): In Reply to: Need Guidance: Buying nice F600 with 330 motor posted by Mopower on December 07, 2004 at 09:03:57: I don't think the 330 is in the same family as the 390, but it is a smaller (older) brother of the 361. The 330 is a good stout (low power) used in medium truck applications. We had over 200K on our 1971 F600 without any major work - just make sure your oil is kept fresh and you mightwant to have the radiator routed out, heat is about the only thing that kills these old engines. I have no experience with the 5 speed - somebody else will have to comment on that. Three important things to check on the F600 trucks: 1. Does the two speed work - and will you need it? 2. BRAKES!!!! 35+ years isn't easy on wheel cylinders and master cylinder 3. Rear axle leaks. For some reason people work on the rear brakes and don't replace the seal on the axle shaft. Starts leaking oil and seizes (or almost seizes) going down the road. Axle cools and unseizes, owner refills with oil and sells truck immediately. If its running almost any price under $1000 sounds pretty good even if you do have to do brake work (could spend real money on a truck and still have to that).
