Dodge 1 ton

With the 1 ton diesel model, does it have the same amount of power as a ford or chevy. A ford or chevy has a V-8 diesel and the dodge has a V-6 diesel. Does it get better miles per gallon. I am considering buying one since they seem to be the best truck to tow a fifth wheel horse trailer. My GMC Sonoma could not do pull my bumper trailer. My GMC 1500 Siera has the power to pull the bumper trailer but I need the bigger fifth wheel trailer. Any suggestions on the best 1 ton with a reasonable price would be appreciated.
