From what I get on the news,it sounds like Dodge will replace the upper ball joints on 2000-2003 and extend the warrenty on 2004 Dakota/Durango.
I still do not know what to think of this deal. From what I saw on tv,somthing is causing the rubber seal boots on the ball joints to fall apart letting the lube out and dirt/water in which tears up the joints. The one they showed on tv that was loose, but not failed, had the boot hanging in shreds at 40,000 miles. My cousin who is a rural mail carrier has used up 3 late model Dakota pickups on his mostly dirt/gravel mail route. He trades usuall at 170,000 miles and has never had a balljoint problem. I wonder if the boot material is tearing up because of some road chemical,or if some are just a bad material. One thing that irks me to no end is that my 2000 Dakota does not have grease fittings on anything. Not suspension, steering,or driveline. Moog brand replacement ball joints for Dakota have grease fittings,as I suspect do their tie rod ends, idler arms etc.
