Got a vaccuum 2-speed on that truck? If you do,a leak anywhere from the hose coming off the intake, control valve, line to rear end, even the shifter diaphram itself will cause your symptoms. If it does it only in hi range, you are ok up to the valve. Running at part throttle with a vaccuum leak will cause a lean-mixture mis-fire.
