'85 dodge truck 4x4

Has any body found a way to lock the front axle with out using the vacum switch? Mine seems to work one time but not the next like it is not getting vacum. So I spliced the line and hooked it up to another vacum sorce so there is two vacum lines to it. But it still will not lock up and work the front axle.When you need it even tryed reving the engine to see if that would work. Tested switch and it still works.
