Connect a test light, ground to the engine block, "hot" lead to the large starter solenoid post where the positive battery cable is connected. Does it light? Now, turn the key to "start". If the light goes out, it indicates you are not getting the current needed from the battery to crank the starter. This could be because of a bad battery, a poor connection at the battery, or one of the battery cable ends not making contact with the heavy wire crimped inside it.

It is NOT uncommon for a battery cable to LOOK OK, but be bad inside one of the end terminals, either at the battery terminal, or the other end.

Try the test light trick, and post back!
