Okay Boyz HELP

I bought one of these heaters (used)that runs on kerosene or no.1 fuel oil and the blower is 110V. It would start up and run about a minute then smoke and stall. I fiddled with it but couldn't find the problem so I took the line out coming from the tank to the inline filter and saw that the filter was in backwards so I turned it around and it started up and ran for about 45 minutes at which time I noticed that the sparkplug wasn't lighting the fuel. The fan continued to run for about thirty seconds or a minute and then the reset shut it down. I thought it was the spark plug so I went and got one ($14.00) and put it in. This time it never lit the fuel, only the fan ran for about one half to one minute and shut down. Whats wrong? Thanks, Sonny
