The Navistar dealer in town gave me a photocopy from his book that explains from 1977 to 1980. The 4th digit is the engine type identifyer. A 0, 1, or 2 is gas or LPG; 3 is a Small Diesel; 5 is a Medium Diesel; 7 is a Large Diesel. He would have to look at his microfiches to see what engine was installed in the truck. He doesn't like microfiches, and I offered to take them off his hands for him, but he refused. they can look up transmissions, rear ends, and I think front axles, too.
