Tim, Yes in theory, you have the 4x4 already! find a crewcab truck to swap your 4x4 parts too.
With that in mind you may want to up grade the springs, front axle and things with a later model
4x4. The reason for jumping to the mid 80s 1ton 4x4 is this is where Ford went back to the solid front axle and not the split modifies twin-I beam 4x4.
Do not forget to check spring widths to see if the are the same. If not , stay with the mid 70s springs and hangers. The later 80s front axle will have Disc brakes where the older is shoe brakes. Something to concider!
IMO... I would use a truck similar to the one in the photo ads as the base truck! Then remove the engine/trans/&all front end parts. Use the one you have as the donor truck! Remove the engine/trams/transfer parts.
Now remove the front axle, Now start removeing the spring hangers. There should be holes already in the frame. simply bolt on, and you go the other side.
Chech to see if the holes are allready there . before you buy the crewcab truck. I will bet the holes are allready there. If so you are into a bolt off, bolt on process
Tim, I know this text doesn't flow well. But I hope you get what I mean.
If you want, my email is uncovered and we can swap phone #s and I would be glad to visit with you.
Later,
John A.
