The loaded side of the gears should remain the same,so that should work. Not sure what you would do to get the speedometer to be accurate in both direct and overdrive as the cable would have to run off the front transmission. Maybe a truck shop could assemble a little electric shift 2 speed box to install in the spedo cable,like the ones used on a truck with electric shift 2 speed axle.
