That can happen if during a rebuild someone overtightened the screws and stripped the threads. Can be fixed, but I would consider buying a rebuilt one from someplace reputable that has a guarantee and trading it in. Fooling with a leaking carb is a disaster waiting to happen. I picked up a Holley two barrel for my Ford for $125 for one Ford and it made a world of difference in the vehicle. I thought I had done a decent job on rebuilding it a fews before, but the quality was topnotch on the purchased rebuild and it ran smoother and got better mileage. Came with a year warranty, too.
