If I remember right, the reason for 8-volt batteries were to make six volt systems start better. Many voltage regulators will take care of keeping the -8- charged, but not all. Your lights will be a bit brighter, fan run faster, If it starts good now, why mess up a good thing? This was thoroughly discussed last winter on the tractor board.
