Hey Dan - John covered it pretty well in his reply below. A couple more comments however: Lights will indeed burn brighter, but you will find the lamps won't last quite as long. The other electrical stuff however won't be harmed running on 8 volts instead of 6. The regulator will most likely need to be adjusted (or even replaced) for the system to charge an 8 volt battery. And if the car is mostly run at idle/low speed you may find it has trouble keeping an 8 volt battery charged, even with the proper regulator. So you have to charge the battery every so often in order to keep it up.

Bottom line: Keep the above in mind and you'll have nothing to worry about! Hope this helps...
